Relinquishing Citizenship to Save Taxes

Bloomberg has an interesting article about how one of the people that helped start Facebook is giving up his citizenship to save taxes.  Eduardo Saverin apparently made the decision to renounce his citizenship last September, ahead of the Facebook IPO.  Saverin is attempting to avoid paying taxes on any gains he will likely incur when Facebook goes public. SEC Investor Alert — Pre-IPO Investment Scams

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently issued a new investor bulletin regarding Pre-IPO investment scams.  Specifically the SEC is warning investors about a number of parties that have been contacting individual investors claiming that they are the owners of pre-IPO shares in Facebook.com.  In fact, the SEC has gone to court and has received immediate relief requiring that the parties halt the sale of these securities immediately.
