The Detroit News is reporting in an article today that the Michigan Tax Tribunal has been essentially overwhelmed with cases. Apparently, 41,000 cases remain pending before the court.
The article goes on to explain that local municipalities have not yet begun to feel the pain from the valuation problems. With the volume of cases pending before the court there will likely be a large number of refunds that will be made by the municipalities. This money will have to come from current tax revenue and may not be included or anticipated as part of the current budgets.
