The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently issued a new investor bulletin regarding Pre-IPO investment scams. Specifically, the SEC is warning investors about a number of parties that have been contacting individual investors claiming that they are the owners of pre-IPO shares in Facebook.com. In fact, the SEC has gone to court and has received immediate relief requiring that the parties halt the sale of these securities immediately.
This bulletin once again demonstrates that the investing public needs to be ever vigilant when dealing with advisers, brokers or others offering a “special” or exclusive deal. If something seems too good to be true it most often is.
